Description:
This all day event is designed to provide an overview of the fundamentals and essential principles in managing trauma for medical students and foundation doctors interested in a career in orthopaedic/trauma surgery, emergency medicine or anaesthetics. It is envisaged that the event will enable the attendees to enhance their knowledge of trauma care and provide a forum for likeminded individuals to discuss the current developments and evolving aspects in this area. The day will comprise of short and relevant interactive talks by eminent speakers in the morning and scenario-based workshops in the afternoon.
Structure:
- Four relevant talks given by experts in the field that will also provide the information for the four related practical workshops in the afternoon.
- Each workshop to include one of the essential skills related to trauma management:
- Self-Care: how to manage the stress that can accompany looking after traumatic injuries
- Managing Difficult Patients: how to deal with a stressed or angry patient/parent
- Hand Overs: how to give an effective handover
- Ethics: considering some of the ethical issues that can arise in patients with trauma
Closing date: Places will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Registrations will close when all places are taken up and, as such, we are unable to provide a precise closing date.
