Course description:
Run by the Royal Liverpool Academy, the academic centre of The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust. This course is part of a series of workshops organised by the MASTER Unit and will utilise training facilities at the MASTER Unit at Broadgreen Hospital.
Endorsement by Mersey Deanery and CPD Points from Royal Colleges in the process of review to be granted.
Topics Covered:
- Principles & evidence base of good anastomoses.
- Hand-sewn end-to-end anastomosis of small bowel.
- Hand-sewn & stapled gastro-jejunostomy.
- Stapled Ileo-colic anastomosis.
- Barcelona technique.
- Ileostomy.
Highlights:
- Expert lectures, discussions and videos.
- Intensive hands-on practice using ex-vivo porcine models.
- Use of staplers.
- A maximum of 12 participants per course with a minimum faculty-delegate ratio of 1:4.
- Personal feedback on performance with advice for further practice.
- Each candidate will do 2 hand-sewn anastomosis, 2 stapled anastomoses and one ileostomy.
Participants must attend the duration of the course in order to gain certification. The viability of this course is subject to having the minimum number of delegates. A final decision will be made no later than 6 weeks before the course date.
