Course description:

Run by the Royal Liverpool Academy, the academic centre of The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust. This course is part of a series of workshops organised by the MASTER Unit and will utilise both training facilities at the MASTER Unit and the Broadgreen Education & Simulation for Training in Surgery & Critical Care (BEST) Unit at Broadgreen Hospital.

Endorsement by Mersey Deanery and CPD Points from Royal Colleges in the process of review to be granted.

Topics Covered:
  • Basic cardiac and thoracic surgery.
  • Principles of AVR, MVR and CABG anastomoses.
  • Median sternotomy, purse string and cannulation options.
  • Thoracotomy and lung resection in full pig models.
  • AVR, MVR & CABG anastomoses on ex-vivo porcine models.

Highlights:
  • Expert lectures, discussions and videos.
  • Intensive hands-on practice using whole body porcine and ex-vivo porcine models.
  • A maximum of 8 participants per course with a minimum faculty-delegate ratio of 1:4.
  • Personal feedback on performance with advice for further practice.

Participants must attend the duration of the course in order to gain certification. The viability of this course is subject to having the minimum number of delegates. A final decision will be made no later than 6 weeks before the course date.
