Course description:

A group session led the Clinical Skills Team to provide a theoretical insight into chemotherapy, including a practical simulation workshop on the removal of ambulatory chemotherapy. This is intended to enable a practitioner to safely and confidently handle and administer subcutaneous methotrexate, cytarabine and ambulatory chemotherapy. A certificate of attendance will be provided following this course.

Topics Covered and Learning Outcomes:
  • Chemotherapy origins and actions and side effects.
  • Aseptic Non-touch technique.
  • Safe handling of chemotherapy including spillage and waste.
  • Subcutaneous methrotrexate and cytarabine administration.
  • Central Venous Access.
  • Ambulatory Chemotherapy.
  • Understanding chemotherapy.
  • Theory and practice of safely removing an ambulatory chemotherapy pump.
