Brief Description:

Designing an appropriate local flap to reconstruct a surgical defect highlights the art as much as the science behind reconstructive surgery. This one day course is intended to teach the attendees the principles and techniques of designing various local flaps using a series of interactive lectures, 3D animated illustrations and simulated practical models. Practical hints for avoiding common complications will also be covered.

Led by Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr Deemesh Oudit, the teaching faculty comprises of surgeons who are experienced in local flap surgery. The attendees will also be given access to SurgicalIllustration.com’s (http://www.surgicalillustration.com) app for the IPhone and IPad on local flaps (Surgical Flaps©) which has notes, 3D illustrated animations and line diagrams on all of the commonly used local flaps.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course, the attendee will:
  • Gain a sound knowledge of the basics of local flaps.
  • Understand the essential principles behind local flap surgery.
  • Develop the fundamental skills required to design a local flap.
