Course description:
This course is suitable for those taking the FRCS exit examination (International) in General Surgery, or other Post graduate surgical examinations such as MS, DNB, MD and FCPS. The course is ideal for those appearing for the examination in 4 to 6 weeks although some may benefit from doing the course a few months before the intended examination date.
Learning Style:
Small group and individual teaching/vivas. No lectures. Candidates will have the opportunity to participate in one on one vivas as in the exam. Slides of images and pathology specimens will be projected and participants will be asked common examination questions. Emphasis will be laid on all participants to answer questions. Each participant will be given time to hone their discussion skills with an examiner and to present the findings confidently. All the curriculum topics in general surgery will be covered in detail: Emergency surgery (including trauma) and Critical care, General Surgery and the General Surgical specialities– upper and lower GI tract, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, endocrine, breast, vascular, transplantation, general surgery of childhood & academic viva.
Aims & Objectives:
To prepare the candidate to sit for the FRCS (international) Exit Exam in General surgery or other Exit Exams.
Learning outcomes:
On completion of this course the candidate will be able to: 1) Describe the techniques required to pass the oral and clinical parts of Section 2 of the exam. 2) Will be able to present and discuss clinical cases as in examination situations.
