Course description:

A small group session led by the Clinical Skills Team that incorporate theory and simulated practice to enable the participant to begin to safely practice venepuncture under supervision. A certificate of attendance, along with a workbook that incorporates a progress card will be provided to those that attend.

Topics Covered and Learning Outcomes:

• National Guidance.
• Safety.
• Aseptic non-touch technique.
• Venous assessment and preservation.
• Venepuncture.
• Techniques and trouble shooting.
• Practical classroom session using a mannequin arm.
• To provide knowledge and simulated experience to enable the practitioner to undertake the skill of venepuncture along side a mentor in their field of practice.

Targeted Audience:

Nurses, Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Operating Department Practitioners and staff where the skill is deemed essential to the job they perform.
