11th January 2021

Online Teaching Via Zoom

About

Brachial plexus injuries can have a devastating impact on the affected individual. In adults, brachial plexus injuries can be caused by trauma, stretching or diseases involving the lateral cervical region of the neck, the cervical spine or the axilla. The signs and symptoms can range from complete paralysis to varying degrees of motor and sensory loss in the upper limb. It is important for plastic surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons and hand surgeons to understand the essential concepts of brachial plexus injuries and to be well-versed in the principles of management of such injuries.

This specialised talk, conducted by a UK expert, will discuss:

  • brachial plexus anatomy and how to draw it
  • the different classifications and types of injury
  • when to perform investigations and how they influence management
  • a step-by-step systematic examination of the brachial plexus
  • patterns of injury and common nerve transfers
The principles covered and the techniques discussed will be relevant for specialist trainees in plastic surgery, orthopaedic surgery and hand surgery.

Suitable for:

  • ST3 and above trainees in plastic surgery.
  • ST3 and above trainees in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Trainees preparing for FRCS(Plast) exam.
  • Trainees preparing for FRCS(Orth) exam.
