Cardiff MRCS(ENT) Course: Theory and Practice for Manned and Unmanned Stations
For Unmanned Stations - 3rd, 5th and 11th February 2025 (1830-2130 hours)
For Manned Stations - 13th February 2025 (1800-2130 hours)
Online Sessions Held via Zoom
This course is divided into two components, as outlined below. Delegates can choose to attend the full course (to cover the manned and unmanned stations), the sessions that cover the unmanned stations only, or the session that covers the manned stations only.
The highlights of this course include a high tutor-to-delegate ratio, coverage of all essential and high-yield theory for the unmanned and manned components of the exam, and individual practice in common areas tested in the manned stations of the exam.
Unmanned Stations
There will be three evenings of interactive discussions held via Zoom on Monday 3rd , Wednesday 5th and Tuesday 11th February 2025. These theoretical sessions will take place between 1830 and 2130 hours, and they will cover the core topics that regularly feature in the exam. The following areas and topics will be covered on these days: gross and microscopic anatomy of key topics in the head and neck, vestibular examination, identification and management of common ENT pathologies, radiological analysis of common conditions, hearing and balance, types of hearing aids, interpretation of specialist investigations, and familiarisation with surgical instruments, equipment and sutures.
Manned Stations
This component is structured based on a high faculty-to-delegate ratio, and delegates will attend in small groups of no more than six. Delivered by surgeons and advanced linguistic specialists, it will allow delegates to practice for the manned stations in a focused, friendly and constructive environment. Each delegate will practice mock scenarios in the areas tested in the manned stations of the exam (information giving, information gathering, breaking bad news and consent), and he/she will receive individualised feedback, enabling him/her to identify any areas of weakness and improve upon these.
