Cardiff MRCS Part B OSCE Course: Focused Communication Skills
About
This intensive revision course covers the communication skills stations tested in the MRCS Part B OSCE. It is intended for those who have not trained in the UK and for those with limited experience in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
Around 15 to 20 patient-centred clinical scenarios will be used to reflect the situations experienced in everyday practice in the UK’s NHS. These scenarios will be in line with what is commonly tested in the MRCS Part B OSCE and will include information gathering, history taking, information giving, breaking bad news, and consent. Due to the high delegate-to-tutor ratio, there will be opportunities for every participant to participate and engage in a number of role-play scenarios, enabling him or her to identify areas of weakness and improve upon them.
Delivered by surgeons and advanced linguistic specialists, this teaching session will focus on the literary and linguistic aspects of communication, British phrases and colloquialisms, mannerisms, and interpersonal skills, all within the context of the MRCS Part B OSCE.
