GASOC Global MedTech Conference

14th September 2019 The Carriageworks Theatre, The Electric Press, 3 Millennium Square, Leeds, LS2 3AD Feedback

about

The GASOC Global MedTech Conference is a one-day conference consisting of didactic sessions, a panel discussion and a hackathon. The hackathon will pose a global surgery problem, where delegates must work in groups to come up with potential technological solutions. GASOC hopes to support the most promising of these delegates with further development after the conference. There will also be a panel discussion on the involvement of trainees in global surgical technology.

Aims and objectives

The conference aims to unite doctors and other healthcare professionals in the fields of surgery, anaesthesia and obstetrics with a shared passion for global surgery. GASOC wishes to highlight that medical technology is an essential component required to improve healthcare needs in both low and middle-income countries. Now is a particularly auspicious time for such an event due to the recent launch of the ‘Future of Surgery Commission’ by the Royal College of Surgeons. GASOC is especially keen to increase awareness of this commission amongst students and trainees, as it believes this is an area with great potential for the meaningful involvement of trainees and juniors.
