Abnormal haematological conditions are commonly encountered in primary care and in general practice. A large number of patients in the community are commenced and continued on long-term anti-platelet and anti-coagulant therapy to treat a variety of conditions such as AF, strokes, angina, myocardial infarctions, post heart valve replacement surgeries, post joint replacement surgeries, DVT, and PE. This half-day course will provide the attendee with an essential overview of the common haematological disorders and their current updates which are directly relevant in every day clinical practice.

Taught by reputed Consultant Haematologists, amongst others, the topics covered will include the following: (i) Abnormal blood counts and clotting tests; (ii) Management of bruising and increased paraprotein levels; (iii) Indications, contraindications and guidance on the usage of anti-platelet and anti-coagulant medications; (iv) Current guidelines and medications in the management of atrial fibrillation; and (v) Identification and management of Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins lymphomas and Leukemias.

This course will be relevant for trainee GPs who are appearing for the MRCGP exams, GP registrars, and fully qualified GPs.
