Following the success of our four-previous sold out conferences, HYMS Joint Surgical Societies are delighted to present the Fifth National Undergraduate Surgical Conference, which will take place on Saturday 20th of January 2018 at the Ron Cooke Hub, University of York.

This one day event is open to all undergraduate medical students and will offer delegates an opportunity to attend three workshops covering a range of surgical skills and specialities. Our goal is to provide all attendees with the opportunities to deepen their understanding and enthusiasm for surgery, to gain exposure to a range of surgical specialities and to build their basic skills from knot-tying to chest drain insertion, portfolio-building to laparoscopic skills. With many more practical workshops available, specifically designed to be varied and flexible so that each delegate may select learning opportunities from which they can most benefit.

Our keynote speakers represent a cross-section of some of the leading figures in surgery and it will be a huge honour to welcome them to York: Professor Derek Alderson (President of the Royal College of Surgeons, editor-in-chief of BJS Open and leading expert in oesophagogastric surgery); Professor Farah Bhatti (Consultant Caridothoracic Surgeon and Chair of the Women in Surgery Forum at the Royal College of Surgeons); Colonel Paul Parker (Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon who is one of few parachute-trained surgeons in the British Army); Mr Paul McMaster (Gresham lecturer and Chairman of the Board of MSF UK). We are certain they will provide insightful and inspirational teaching to all who attend and look forward to gaining from their experience and clinical excellence.
