The HYMS Obstetrics and Gynaecology Student Conference will take place on Saturday 6th April 2019 at the Medical Education Centre, Hull Royal Infirmary, Anlaby Road, Hull.
It intends to provide the delegate with an insight into the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The day will comprise of a series of keynote talks delivered by specialists in the field of women’s health. Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend workshops, where they will be able to practice skills relevant to their future training and receive advice from professionals currently working in the specialty.
Abstract Submission
A poster presentation competition, for which abstracts are currently being accepted, will be held during the conference. Individuals who would like their work to be considered for presentation should submit a 500 word abstract to hyrp10@hyms.ac.uk by 2359 hours on Saturday 23rd March 2019 Abstracts submitted after this time will not be accepted for consideration.

ST6 Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar
Hull Royal Infirmary, Hull, United Kingdom- Sharon is a 6th year Specialist Trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, currently working in Hull Royal Infirmary, where she enjoys the thrill and stress of the Labour Ward. She is a Trainee Representative for the Yorkshire Deanery at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and sits on the Core Curriculum Committee. She has a particular interest in medical education, in particular undergraduate teaching, and hopes to allow more medical students to have an interest in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Clinical Nurse Specialist/Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Gynae-Oncology
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, United Kingdom- Lynn is a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Gynae-Oncology at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She is also a UKCP and COSRT accredited psychosexual therapist, working with a wide range of sexual difficulties including problems with sexual function, sexual trauma, out-of-control sexual behaviour, sexuality, and gender and sexual diversity.
Lynn uses a bio-psycho-social approach to help clients (individuals and couples) deal with their sexual issues, combining her nursing and psychotherapy expertise to look at the whole problem from a physical, psychological and social viewpoint; in essence, offering integrated therapy and sexual rehabilitation. She is trauma informed and LGBT sensitive. She regularly writes and speaks on the topics of cancer, sexuality, psychosexual therapy and managing late effects of cancer treatments both in the UK and abroad.

Doctors for Choice UK- Sean is a Fifth Year Medical Student at UCL, hoping to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. While at medical school, he has been involved in a number of projects that aim to engage students in a range of equalities issues that include women’s sexual and reproductive health, the rights of LGBT+ people and widening-access to medical school. He helped set up Viva la Vulva, an award-winning UCL medical student political action group, which aims to engage students in issues that are integral to women’s health, ranging from abortion rights and access, to domestic violence and sexual exploitation. He is a Student Representative for Doctors for Choice UK.

- Dr Corrina Horan first developed a conscientious commitment to abortion provision whilst studying at UCL Medical School. This has led her to participate in research about how abortion is taught across UK medical schools, and what can be done to ensure this teaching is delivered to a high standard for everyone. In addition, Corrina is a part of a Doctors for Choice UK group, working on training opportunities for future abortion care providers.

Conference Lead
Anne-Victoire Le Fur is a Fourth Year Medical Student at HYMS, and a graduate in Biomedical Science from University of Warwick. Anne-Victoire been interested in women’s health for as long as she has wanted to be a doctor, heavily influenced by her mother growing up, who is a specialist doctor in Community Sexual and Reproductive Health. Like most people who are enticed by this specialty, the combination of medicine and surgery, as well as the massive array of sub-specialties that can be focused on, are both strongly appealing factors to Anne-Victoire. She has nurtured her interests in women’s and sexual health by setting up the Hull branch of Sexpression, which she has run for two years. Anne-Victoire was also president of HYMSOGS last year and is the events coordinator on the committee this year. - Miss Jess Dowle
HYMS Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society President (Co-Organiser)
Jess Dowle is a Third Year Medical Student and HYMSOGS President. Jess loves Obstetrics and Gynaecology because it incorporates medical, surgical, public health and ethical aspects into one specialty. She has a specific interest in fertility and hopes to sub-specialise into reproductive medicine and surgery in the future. Jess also intercalated last year, undertaking a research project looking into the variation of gene expression of fallopian tubes, which sparked a passion in research and academics. - Miss Rebekah Pereira
HYMS Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society Vice President (Co-Organiser)
Rebekah Pereira is HYMSOGS Vice President and is currently in her 4th Year at HYMS. Rebekah was inspired to pursue a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by her mother, who is a midwife and who constantly came home each day and told her about all the babies she had delivered. Her descriptions highlighted to Rebekah how much emotion is involved in obstetrics, both highs and lows, and how incredible it is to be present and have a share in that moment when a baby is born.
Since being at medical school, Rebekah has become very passionate about global reproductive health, from menstrual hygiene to abortion rights, and is always keen to engage in discussions and get involved in relevant research. - Miss Tilly Barnes-Harris
Treasurer
Tilly Barnes-Harris is a 4th Year Student at HYMS and has done a Medical Science degree at Birmingham before Medicine. Tilly enjoys the breadth of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, including both medical and surgical aspects. Tilly is also Treasurer for the HYMS Medical Leadership and Management Society and is President of their Netball team. - Miss Ayla Ozbey

Ayla Ozbey is a Second Year Medical Student from London. This is her first time helping to organise an event at medical school and is glad it has been an Obstetrics and Gynaecology one. Ayla loves Obstetrics and Gynaecology because it gives doctors the opportunity to work with patients at vulnerable and meaningful times in their lives and involves working with people from a variety of different backgrounds. Sarah Tai-MacArthur is a Third Year at HYMS.Sarah loves Obstetrics and Gynaecology and hopes to one day specialize in sexual and reproductive health. Sarah loves the variety that Obstetrics and Gynaecology has to offer, through combining aspects of ethics, medicine and surgery, and as a young woman herself, she is very passionate about helping women advocate forthemselves in healthcare.
