Aims and Objectives
- To offer delegates the opportunity to engage with Ophthalmologists at various levels of training through a day of virtual lectures and specialist talks based on key clinical knowledge, public health, and research in Ophthalmology.
- To provide delegates advice on how to pursue a career in Ophthalmology and what it entails. Hearing from the first-hand experiences of Ophthalmologists in various stages of training and a Q&A segment,it is hoped that delegates will gain an appreciation of the speciality.
- To offer delegates a platform to present oral or poster presentations related to Ophthalmology at a national level.
- To offer delegates a certificate of participation in a national conference, which will act as evidence of their interest in the specialty for their records.

About
This one-day event is a collaboration between the Medical Schools of Plymouth University, Exeter University, Liverpool University, Newcastle University, Birmingham University and Southampton University.
The conference will include a range of specialist talks which will discuss key clinical knowledge, public health issues, and a career in ophthalmology. There will also be oral and poster presentations, as well as a Q&A session with ophthalmologists. It will provide a unique opportunity for delegates to learn more about and demonstrate an interest in the ever-evolving specialty of ophthalmology as a career choice.

Abstract submission
Abstract submissions of any primary and secondary research/QIP/Audit/Case Report/Other in Ophthalmology are welcome.
Submission Guidance:
- Abstracts to be limited to 300 words, excluding title and references. These should be submitted in English language.
- Abstracts must include introduction/background, methods, results, discussion is advised. Images, tables, and figures will not be allowed as part of the submission.
- For abstracts which focus on patient information, please ensure that these are sufficiently anonymised and do not breach patient confidentiality.
- The title and text should be free of abbreviations, except those commonly used.
- Candidates are invited to submit multiple abstracts for consideration, and these should be submitted via separate Google Forms.
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of reviewers to confirm suitability for the conference. Abstracts selected will be called to submit a poster or an oral presentation with slides.
Poster Presentations will be displayed on an external website and as a slideshow during the lunch break. Oral presentation authors will be invited to deliver a 10-minute slideshow presentation summarising their project, followed by 5 minutes of questions.
Oral and poster presentations will be judged by an expert panel. Prizes will be awarded for the best oral and poster presentations. The prizes are:

Orbis is one of the world’s largest charitable organisations in ophthalmology which aims to tackle avoidable causes of blindness on a worldwide scale.The organisation provides training and guidance in communities and areas in which the greatest impact can be achieved. Orbis’ “flying air hospital”, which is a plane converted into a mobile eye hospital, allows the organisation to bring the highest level of ophthalmic training and care to both healthcare specialists and patients in areas which would otherwise not have access to such facilities and technology.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Orbis has invested in a telemedicine platform, delivering virtual training clinics in Bolivia, Zambia, Cameroon, Mongolia and India and enabling the organisation to continue its life changing work.
