About:

This teaching session will cover the fundamental legal requirements, including examination and documentation essentials, when End of Life Care (EOLC) is commenced, as well as the procedures required for the verification of a death. The session will explore the pathophysiology of clinical signs when death is imminent and the initial assessment required when a junior doctor is called to the ward. Practical tips on when to consider commencing the EOLC pathway and the ethical implications will be discussed. In addition, the pharmacology and prescription of end of life medications will be discussed, with tips on safe prescribing. This session aims to improve the attendee's confidence in verifying a death and knowing when to commence and prescribe EOLC medications.
