The above programme is available to children between the ages of 12 and 16, whose parents/guardian would benefit from financial support to sustain the child’s education. We currently provide 3 scholarships per year to children who are in need of support. The funding includes one-year tuition fees, cost of lunch and snacks (if not already provided by the school) cost of books, clothing and school accessories (bags, lunch box, pens etc), and the cost of reasonable extracurricular activities. Children who make excellent progress and demonstrate the potential for (future) high achievement will be strong contenders for our numerous fellowship programmes, which will enable them initiate or sustain their university/college education (please see our fellowship programmes).

• Who is eligible?
  Preference will be given to students from/in rural areas, in state/government schools or in schools which are non-profit/charity oriented, as such, children from schools which are privately run and are profit-based will be supported only in exceptional circumstances.
• Who can apply?
  The parent or legal guardian of the child.
  The principal/headmaster/headmistress of the school where the child is currently a student.
  The head of the local council or representative of the community (Member of Parliament, Member of Legislative Assembly, Minister of Church etc) in which the child currently resides
• What documents are needed?

  If you are the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of the child, you should provide:

  1. Proof of nationality or birth certificate of the child
  2. Letter from the school in which the child is currently a student or will be a prospective student confirming the status
  3. A letter stating why your child needs financial support (you may provide information about your job [or inability to obtain a job], handicap, sickness, need to support other children etc)
  4. Guardian(s) of the child should also submit the relevant documents about the legality of your guardianship, the duration of guardianship and, if appropriate, your relation to the child.

  If you are the principal/headmaster/headmistress of the school where the child is currently a student or you are the head of the local council or representative of the community in which the child currently resides, you should provide:

  1. Letter stating your exact position within the school or community
  2. Proof of nationality or birth certificate of the child (if that can be obtained from the parents or guardian)
  3. Letter stating your opinion as regards to why the child needs financial support and any supporting documents from the parent(s)/guardian(s)
  4. Letter from the school in which the child is currently a student or will be a prospective student confirming the status
  5. Any competing interests.
• What happens when the documents are submitted?
  The executive committee of Doctors academy will review all the applications, their suitability and authenticity. Selected candidates will be contacted within four weeks from the time of application.
• What happens to the money?
  Once the child is accepted into the scholarship programme, Doctors academy will contact the school and ask for certain documents including the cost of education. Doctors Academy will pay all the tuition fees, cost of books and any other expenses related to the child’s education directly to the school. Parent(s)/guardian(s) will receive the cost for food and clothing.
• What is our commitment?
  Doctors academy will provide only financial support to the educational need of the child. It will not provide career guidance to the child nor will it be responsible for the physical well-being, and social and moral development of the child; this responsibility rests entirely with the school, parents and/or legal guardians of the child.
• Our rights
  All scholarship programmes are funded by the members of Doctors academy, and as such, Doctors academy reserves the absolute right to decide on the award. It may decide not to provide any scholarships in a particular year for no apparent reason. Doctors academy, due to its diverse collaborations, may, in certain instances, decide to provide scholarships directly to the school and/or children during one of their site visits, and thus may not advertise them in the website. Doctors academy believes in honesty and transparency. If any evidence of misuse of funds or fraudulent activity is identified in any school/college/university who obtains our scholarships, Doctors academy will sever all future links with that school/college/university and also reserves the right to pursue legal action to reclaim all the money.
